I loved The Shack. It is an awesome book that even a teenager can appreciate. As a mother and a wife, It touched me spiritually, mentally and emotionally. I was also able to see my own challenges & struggles in life in a loving and positive perspective as opposed to the natural reaction just about any human interfaces during times of uncertainty. I will recomment this book to everybody I know

I started reading this book at the beginning of the summer (2010) but had to stop when a tragic accident took the lives of 2 teens in our community. Both very close friends of my children. They were so involved in church and school and had so much to live for. I just couldn't bring myself to finish it. Then on a trip to Cape Cod 2 weeks later I decided to finish it on the ride. Lets just say I was an emotional wreck. I needed to read those words and now I have given the book to Katlyn and Taylor's mom to read. She has the same emotional feeling as Mack. Thank you!

I was told by a friend months and I think a year ago. I bought it for my husband to read but he is not much of a reader and it just sat there. I picked it up 2 days ago when I was feeling so down and have been questioning God and if he really cares about me. I couldn't stop reading and feeling for the first time in my life I think that God is here and is with us and does care. I have heard many sermons in my life and for the first time I think they are alive to me.
I never thought it was a true story but the truth of the story has touched many lives and I thank you for that.

I have to agree whole heartedly with you. I too just finished the book and am completely baffled that it is a fictional story. It impacted me greatly and changed the way I think about God. Now I'm left confused again. So disappointed. But it was a great story and I fell in love with the characters.

I LOVED the shack. At first when I started reading it and I got to the part where God is portrayed as this big, Aunt Jemima-type woman it totally turned me off and I just couldn't get past that. I set it down for a week or two, but feel I was lead by the Holy Spirit to pickit up and read it again so I did. And I'm very glad that I did. I believe that by reading this book God showed me how He really feels about me (and others) and how our relationships SHOULD be. I didn't know if it it was fiction or not-thought it could be, but leaned toward it not being real-just thought maybe the author had a vision or something from God and wrote about it. However it was written, I know others who have read it and they say it has changed their lives. I really, really LOVED it. Also, having children of my own, it was hard for me to deal w/ the whole Missy story-line part of it, but I got through it. I did cry a lot, and laughed too. Now I am trying to get my husband to read it because I really liked that it was written from a man's point of view-and that it's okay for a man to cry and men need healing and men don't need to be macho men and God wants a relationship w/ men and etc, etc, etc. Thank you. GREAT book!!

I don't understand how I could have missed hearing about this book when it first was published! A friend at work told me she heard it would change ones life to read it. I had to see if that was true. I mentioned to my daughter that I wanted to buy it but she had it and borrowed it to me.
It is two in the morning and I just finished it. I had to look back and read to see if it was a real story also. I believe that it touched my heart in places that needed mending. I think we each take a part of what we need in our lives from this book.

a friend gave me the book,i read it every minute i could i finished in 2 weeks ,broke record.I learned so much from it spiritually. A lot my questions were answered .I will read it again just so i can see if i missed anything,its a great book .I will be giving it out as a gift to my friends thank you very much for such a great story.God Bless you

I think the foreword was intentionally misleading. It was no accident that the book was published and distributed with the intent to sell books under the guise that a little girl was murdered. It was not needed and cheap. That being said, the rest of the book was wonderful and did not at all need the foreword in order to become a best seller and a moving story. Because of the foreword it is hard for me to completely buy into the events surrounding the shack. As a partial agnostic I still agreed with many of the lessons you teach us in this book, but I can't shake the the misleading information in the foreword.
